Ah, coba dengar!
Rentetan kisah-kisah yang mengawang tiada ujung, yang bercerai-berai bagai kepingan cerita di sudut meja. Kadang-kadang kau tahu pilihannya, membuangnya, atau melanjutkannya. Tatkala kau berpikir untuk membuangnya, kau telah tahu kau hidup bersama ribuan tulisan itu bahkan sejak bertahun-tahun yang lalu, well, kalau tidak, mungkin bayangkan saja berbulan-bulan. Semakin lama, semakin tak tega untuk membuangnya.
Lalu sejenak kau merenung dan tahu--this ain't easy. Kau tahu berapa banyak hari yang harus dilalui dengan menambah goresan-goresan tinta di kertas-kertas itu, akankah semuanya terjadi semulus bagaimana kau mengira-ngira? Setulus bagaimana kau mengharapkan mimpi itu.
Tapi, semua yang tertulis kan hanya kau yang tahu? Kecuali kau berseru, "Ah, coba dengar!" tapi bukan, bukan itu yang kau lakukan, bukan itu yang mampu menggerakkan bibirmu. Kau termenung dan bertanya seolah rentetan kisah-kisah itu mampu menjawabnya. Ia tak tahu bagaimana akhirnya, dan kau juga tidak. Tidak ada yang mengerti mengapa kau bertahan dan menciptakan akhir-akhir kisah yang lain. Sejenak kau mengeluh lagi dan mendengarkan, merasakan berbagai gejolak yang meletup-letup di salah satu organ tubuhmu, lalu sedetik yang akan datang adrenalinmu melonjak, menampakkan warna-warna lain yang membuat senyummu mengembang. Ah, ini gila! Tidakkah kau tahu apa-apa tentang itu?

Aku berlari ke arah taman, menyunggingkan senyum dengan lebar, seakan tak ada masalah yang sedang menghimpitku kini. Ya, begitulah aku. Ada seseorang yang mengejarku dari belakang. Dia laki-laki, berwajah sangat tampan, berumur tiga tahun di atasku, tetapi ia begitu perhatian padaku. Dia kakakku, Clay.

“Aura,” panggilnya dengan napas tersengal-sengal. Aku tertawa semakin lebar, “Ayo, kejar aku, Clay!” seruku bersemangat.

“Aura!” Dia berseru lagi.

Aku berhenti tertawa, suaranya terdengar tercekat. Aku menoleh ke arah belakang. Aku terkejut melihat Clay tersungkur di rerumputan, ia memegangi lehernya, wajahnya pucat. Aku segera berlari ke arahnya, menopang kepalanya pada lututku.
